Delhi: The fourth segment of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week – Spring Summer 2013 Day 1 had designers Kiran Uttam Ghosh and Poonam Bhagat display their creations on the ramp. While Ghosh’s bold collection offered an exquisite peek into the Middle East and the Orient, Poonam Bhagat’s ‘Takia’ was a journey through Central Asia.
Kiran Uttam Ghosh’s Spring Summer 2013 collection found its muse in Leonard Cohen’s poetry. With the deep recitations of ‘And sometimes when the night is slow,/The wretched and the meek,/We gather up our hearts and go,/A thousand kisses deep...’ in the background, models walked the ramp in ensembles worthy of envy. Shapes, embellishments and motifs from the Middle East, the Orient and India saw themselves in perfect amalgamation in the creations of Kiran Uttam Ghosh. The designer’s line interprets masculine pieces with underlying femininity, at times playing with the contours of the androgynous. Metallic component, colour and print blocking, stark placement embroideries blended with Ghosh’s signature edgy silhouettes and soft geometric shapes, and gave rise to the dramatic creations that were unfolded on the ramp. Spice colours and vibrant hues were pieced together with sheer and opaque bases, and the designer presented new layering ideas that go beyond the ‘tunics with trousers’ theory. Kiran Uttam Ghosh shared the fashion show with Poonam Bhagat who launched her Spring Summer 2013 collection, ‘Takia’. The collection, inspired by motifs and works from Central Asia, had all pairs of eyes admiring it. Bhagat’s innovative usage of fabrics like cotton and Chanderi and blending them with the solid colours red and black made for an interesting watch. Poonam Bhagat’s collection, ‘Takia’, showcased short dresses, kaftans, jumpsuits and long flowing robes. Appliqué and embroidery offered a different look to her collection, and dramatic red, black, ivories and emeralds called for a thunderous applause inside the hall!
