Review: Arjun Rampal overshadows Sunny Deol in gripping ‘Fox’

'Fox' does have action, drama and outstanding dialogues but it also has Arjun Rampal and Sagarika Ghatge, who can’t be ignored even if you have a Sunny Deol roaring in the flick.

What would you expect out of a film that stars the desi action hero- Sunny Deol? Well, you would expect some action, soul stirring dialogues and yes, you would definitely end up ignoring the other actors starring in the flick. But this isn’t exactly what happens with ‘Fox’. The movie does have action, drama and outstanding dialogues but it also has Arjun Rampal and Sagarika Ghatge (of ‘Chak De! India’ fame), who can’t be ignored even if you have a Sunny Deol roaring in the flick.Director Deepak Tijori for the first time tries to keep away from B grade genre and puts in a genuine attempt to make a commercial potboiler. The film fits into the thriller genre and tells the story of a sharp but corrupt criminal lawyer Arjun (Arjun Rampal) who makes a career out of defending bad guys. A conscience attack makes him try and change the path of his life and he decides to take a break. During this very break, he lands upon a dead lawyer’s manuscript. Arjun releases the copy in his own name and the manuscript turns into an overnight bestseller. Trouble begins when a cop (Sunny Deol) frames Arjun for murder, based on clues in the manuscript. Arjun of course has to prove his innocence against a manuscript that doesn’t even belong to him. Interesting is the word.
The only thing which can be a deterrent is the fact that Tijori ropes in too many characters and hence ends up confusing the audience. But the actors excel and take it further on their shoulders. Sunny’s impresses as usual, perhaps coz we’ve started valuing him more now that we don’t see him much. But Arjun Rampal and Sagarika Ghatge rise above the dull screenplay, with Rampal even ending up overshadowing Deol. Udita Goswami is just fine. In short, ‘Fox’ is thrilling, go catch it! Rating: Three stars.
