Delhi Police constables shot on duty by unidentified men, one killed

Two Delhi Police constables were shot at by three unidentified men near a police station at Rohini's Vijay Vihar area, killing one and severely injuring other on early Monday morning.

New Delhi: Two Delhi Police constables were shot at by three unidentified men near a police station at Rohini's Vijay Vihar area, killing one and severely injuring other on early Monday morning.

The two policemen were patrolling in the area when they saw three men travelling in an autorickshaw. As they tried to stop and question them after finding their activities suspicious, the assailants opened fired at the constables.

The bullet hit constable Jagbir in the chest and his collegue Narendra on the back. While Jagbir succumbed to his injuries on the spot, Narendra was critically injured and rushed to a city hospital.

The three unidentified men managed to flee from the spot.

"The incident occurred at around 2 am today when the two constables were on night patrol on their bike and found some persons sitting in an auto in L block, gali no.7," said a police official.

The policemen found their activities suspicious and questioned them. When they could not come up with satisfactory answers, the two constables left their bike and sat in the auto to take them to nearby Vijay Vihar police station, he said.

Police has registered an FIR against the assailants. Moreover, the Delhi Police's crime branch and special cell have been roped in to probe the case.

This is the second such incident in a week as a few days back some unidentified men opened fire on two Delhi Police constables in the busy Connaught Place area in the heart of the national capital.
