Eman Ahmed, once dubbed as world's heaviest woman, passes away

Eman Ahmed, who underwent a number of weight-loss surgeries in a Mumbai hospital earlier this year, passed away in Abu Dhabi early Monday. She was 37.

New Delhi: Eman Ahmed, who underwent a number of weight-loss surgeries in a Mumbai hospital earlier this year, passed away in Abu Dhabi early Monday. She was 37.

Doctors at the Burjeel Hospital confirmed that Eman - once dubbed as the world's heavist woman - died due to numerous co-morbid conditions including heart diseases and kidney dysfunction. Previosuly, doctors at the hospital had said that she was making a positive recovery and that she would be able to use an electric wheelchair on her own.

Emam - a resident of Alexandria in Egypt - weighed 504 kgs when she arrived in Mumbai on February 11. By the the time she left Saifee Hospital here - on May 4, she had shed 300 kgs. A strict diet program, coupled with more treatments in Abu Dhabi, had helped her remain in a stable condition. “She had been under the supervision of a medical team of over 20 doctors from different specialities who were managing her medical condition from the time she arrived in the UAE. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to her family,” a statement from the Burjeel Hospital read.
