London: A new miracle injection called Liraglutide has recently been developed that has helped people shed an average 19lbs a year, so it has been considered better than dieting or exercising.

Doctors have claimed that the miracle drug for slimmers after studies revealed people lost almost a stone more than they would by simply counting calories and upping their exercise regime, the Daily Star reported.

The jab has been approved by health watchdogs and could be available on prescription in months. It could also lower blood pressure, raise good cholesterol and prevent diabetes and produces a "feel-good factor" according to its Danish makers Novo Nordisk, meaning dieting could even be enjoyable.

The company will apply for it to be prescribed on the NHS after the EU drugs regulator will soon rule that it is safe and effective.

But there are fears Britain's drugs watchdog will judge it too expensive for routine use on the NHS. As it costs from 2.25 pounds a day, which was roughly double the price of Orlistat, the only other prescription diet drug.

It is based on a hormone found in the gut and sends signals to the brain that trick it into feeling full, resulting in people eating 10 per cent less food than normal.
