Pakistan dismayed by irresponsible, imprudent statements by Indian leadership: Nawaz Sharif

Islamabad: In the wake of statements made by Indian leaders apropos of the Army offensive in Myanmar, Pakistan has reacted strongly with Premier Nawaz Sharif on Thursday terming the remarks as 'irresponsible and imprudent'.

Sharif's statement came just hours after Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said those who "fear India's new posture" have already started reacting.

Addressing journalists at the foreign office, Radio Pakistan, Sharif said the statements by Indian leaders vitiate the atmosphere and take the two countries away from goals of regional peace and stability.

"The entire nation is dismayed over these irresponsible and imprudent statements by the Indian leadership,” Sharif maintained.

The Pakistan Premier's comments came during a time of constant verbal exchanges between the two countries. Indian Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore warned that the Indian strikes in Myanmar were a message to all countries, including Pakistan and groups harbouring "terror intent" and that India would strike at a "place and time" of its choosing.

Earlier in the day Pakistan Parliament passed a resolution condemning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks on the Indian role in creation of Bangladesh.

The resolution rejected India's “hegemonic mindset” and stressed that Pakistan will never allow Indian forces to violate its territory.

During the discussion on the resolution, political leaders emphasised that the armed forces of Pakistan would give a befitting reply to any incursion attempt by India.

The resolution came a day after India said its surgical strikes inside Myanmar to exterminate militants were a message to other neighbours, indirectly implying a warning to Pakistan.

The resolution further stated such "crude attempts" by India are unacceptable and Pakistan rejects this "hegemonic mindset".

It condemned the recent "disturbing pattern of provocative and hostile" statements by Indian leaders including threatening attacks against Pakistani territory.
