Mobile phones seized in UP jail; jailor suspended

Five jail personnel, including the jailor of a divisional prison, have been suspended after mobile phones and other electronic accessories were recovered from inmates during raid by the local administration, an official said here on Wednesday.

Azamgarh: Five jail personnel, including the jailor of a divisional prison, have been suspended after mobile phones and other electronic accessories were recovered from inmates during raid by the local administration, an official said here on Wednesday.

A raid was carried out in the divisional prison on May 25 during which prohibited items including, 54 mobile phones, ear piece and charges, were recovered from the possession of the inmates and unauthorised persons, Incharge District Magistrate Mahendra Verma said.

He said that a report was sent to the government following which jailor CP Tripathi was suspended last evening.

Superintendent of Police Akash Kulhari said that four jail guard have also been suspended by jail superintendent AK Mishra over this incident.
