The government has, as part of GST 2.0, exempted all individual life and health insurance premiums from GST, effective September 22, 2025. Previously, life insurance premiums were subject to GST rates of up to 18 per cent.

Life Insurance Corporation of India'S (LIC's) Special Campaign for revival of lapsed policies is ending today. The insurance behemoth launched its Special Revival Campaign from 18th August 2025 to 17 October 2025 for individual lapsed policies.

HDFC Bank recorded a marginal rise of Rs 230.31 crore, with its valuation standing at Rs 14,84,816.26 crore. 

LIC’s market value dropped by Rs 23,655.49 crore, while SBI lost Rs 12,692.1 crore. Bajaj Finance and Infosys also ended lower, with losses of Rs 10,471.08 crore and Rs 7,540.18 crore respectively.

The insurer will also not take part in the bank’s management, will not have any special rights, and will not be represented on the board of directors. LIC, which still holds a significant stake in the bank, will outline its plan for reclassification in the letter of offer that will be shared with shareholders during the open offer process by the new buyer.

Under this Special Revival Campaign, Policies of specific eligible plans can be revived within 5 years from date of the First Unpaid Premium subject to certain terms and conditions.

If your policy has lapsed because you missed payments, this is your chance to reactivate it — with lower late fees. LIC is offering up to 30 percent off on late fees, capped at Rs 5,000, depending on how much your policy premium is. For micro insurance policies, you’ll get a 100 percent waiver on late fees — meaning no late fees at all.

LIC Guinness World Record: LIC recently reported a 9.91% year-on-year increase in new business premium for April, outpacing the overall industry growth of 8.43% and the 6.09% rise recorded by private life insurers.  

As per the data, in the Individual Premium category, LIC posted a slight decline of 0.46 per cent, collecting Rs 3,160.87 crore in April 2025 compared to Rs 3,175.47 crore in April 2024.
