Assam Cabinet takes this decision about govt-run madrasas, Sanskrit Tols

Assam cabinet on Sunday approved a proposal to close down all government-run madrasas and Sanskrit tols in state. A bill in this regard will be tabled during the upcoming winter session of the state Assembly. The winter session of the Assam Legislative Assembly is scheduled to start from December 28.

Assam Minister Sarma makes big statement over teaching of Quran in state

Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (October 13) said that the government money could not be used to reach Muslim religious book Quran. He added that if the government is bearing the cost of teaching the Quran in madrassas, then it should also pay for the teaching of Bible and Bhagavad Gita. The senior BJP leader added that all government-aided madrassas in Assam ill be converted into regular schools as the state government has decided to shut down all madrassas in November.
