Naga Chaitanya set to play grandfather ANR in 'Mahanati'

The film was earlier set to release on March 31, 2018, but it has been pushed ahead as still some work is underway.

New Delhi: One of the top-notch actors in Tamil and Telugu cinema, Naga Chaitanya has finally given his nod to star in 'Mahanati', a film where he will reportedly play his grandfather ANR (Akkineni Nageswara Rao).

'Mahanati', a multilingual venture is based on the life of popular South Indian Savitri and features a huge ensemble star cast. Besides Naga, the film stars Dulquer Salmaan, Anushka Shetty, Keerthy Suresh and Samantha Akkineni in pivotal parts.

According to Firstpost.com, Savitri and ANR featured in a number of films together and the latter's part will be reprised on the big screens by grandson Naga. This remains one of the most talked about upcoming ventures in South cinema.

'Mahanati' is helmed by Nag Ashwin. The filmmaker told Firstpost.com, “Naga Chaitanya is on board. He plays his grandfather and his role is essentially a cameo but will be seen at important junctures of the film. It’s a very important role from the story’s point of view.”
