File Action Taken Report over 'anti-national' slogans at Ramjas college: Court orders Delhi Police

New Delhi: The court here has directed the Delhi Police to file Action Taken Report over anti-national slogans that were allegedly raised at Delhi University's North Campus last month. 

The court has asked the Delhi Police to file the report by March 30. 

Students from DU’s law department had approached the Delhi High Court on Wednesday for action against policemen who allegedly assaulted students and journalists at Delhi’s Ramjas college during a clash on February 22.

Two of Delhi University law students Tarun Narang and Deepak Joshi have filed a public interest litigation.

The PIL seeks the formation of an independent committee of senior Delhi Police officials to investigate what led to massive protests in Delhi University last week.

The students of Delhi University students yesterday staged a protest against the ABVP at the SGTB Khalsa College, in the North Campus.

Last week, the All India Students Association (AISA) and the ABVP engaged into a scuffle over the cancellation of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid's talk at Delhi University's Ramjas College. 

It also demanded that police lodge cases under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) against the Police officers.

This development comes in the backdrop of unrest in Delhi University, following disruption of an event themed 'Cultures of Protest,' at Ramjas College.

A 'Tiranga' march was organised by the ABVP on Monday, to invoke nationalist sentiments on the campus.

On February 22, a literary festival organised in Ramjas College was disrupted, allegedly by members of the ABVP, which led to an outbreak of a series of clashes in which teachers, students, and journalists were wounded on the Delhi University campus.

Following the clashes, protests and counter-protests have been carried out by students of DU and ABVP respectively in Delhi University's North Campus.
