Madhubani Art: The Story of Madhubani Painting
Madhubani paintings are traditionally created by women from the Mithila region. In their small community, mothers pass down this art form to their daughters. The tradition dates back to the Treta Yuga, when King Janaka ruled Mithila. It is believed that he commissioned this painting of his kingdom's walls to celebrate the marriage of his daughter, Sita, to Lord Rama. These beautiful wall paintings eventually became known as Mithila or Madhubani paintings.
