Top-ranked player Novak Djokovic of Serbia feels Italian teenager Jannik Sinner leads the pack of `Next Gen` players with the potential of becoming a future World No.1. Jannik Sinner, who clinched the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2019 and is currently ranked 43rd, booked his place in his maiden Grand Slam quarter final at this month`s French Open. Djokovic believes Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverer are already established players and would need to sustain their performances over a period to wrest the top ranking.
Spain's Rafael Nadal defeated Serbia's Novak Djokovic 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 to capture a record-extending 13th French Open title on Sunday (October 11). This was Nadal's record-tying 20th Grand Slam title. Nadal thus equalled his arch-rival Roger Federer for 20 major trophies. Nadal won the tournament without dropping a set and will now be the frontrunner to go ahead of the 39-year-old Federer.
German duo Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies beat Croatian Mate Pavic and Brazilian Bruno Soares 6-3, 7-5 to retain their French Open doubles crown. A year after becoming the first all-German team to capture a Grand Slam men`s doubles trophy in the professional era, they again shone on the Parisian clay, winning in 89 minutes. Eighth seeds Krawietz and Mies were clinical against the U.S. Open champions, breaking once in each set to become only the fourth team to win back-to-back French Open titles.
Carreno Busta, who lost in the U.S. Open semi-final after leading Alexander Zverev by two sets, took advantage to win the opening set -- the first conceded by Djokovic in the tournament. Seventh-seed Petra Kvitova`s superior firepower proved decisive as she posted her fourth successive straight-sets victory with win over Zhang Shuai. Meanwhile, Zhang was playing in the fourth round of a Slam for only the third time in 33 attempts having also not dropped a set so far Kvitova will sense a golden title opportunity as she heads into a quarter-final against either Germany`s Laura Siegemund or Spain`s Paula Badosa, neither of whom are seeded.

Nadal, who skipped the U.S. Open in New York due to COVID-19 concerns, said he would regroup before heading to Paris, where he will bid for a record-extending 13th title.
German fifth seed Alexander Zverev reached the US Open semi-final with a 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(1), 6-3 victory over Croatian Borna Coric in the quarters. Zverev reached his second Grand Slam semi-final this year and became the first German male to reach the last four at the US Open since Boris Becker in 1995. He will now face Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the semi-finals on Friday.
US Open Referee Soeren Friemel said there was "no other option" but to disqualify Novak Djokovic on Sunday after he struck a line judge with a ball during his 4th round match against Pablo Carreno Busta. A frustrated Djokovic swatted a ball to the back of the court inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, inadvertently hitting a line judge in her throat, after he had lost his serve in the opening set. The disqualification ended the Serbian World number one's hopes for an 18th Grand Slam title. Djokovic was unbeaten this year with 26 straight victories.

Indo-Canadian pair of Rohan Bopanna- Denis Shapovalov have reached the quarterfinals of the US Open by defeating the German pairing Kevin Krawietz-Andreas Mies 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the second-round. Bopanna, 40, is the sole Indian left in the Grand Slam following the exits of Sumit Nagal and Divij Sharan. The duo will now face the Dutch-Romanian pair of Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau on Monday, September 7.
