Fine for over speeding, unnecessary stops, outrageous driving in Atal Tunnel

The official notification by the Kullu DM Richa Sharma said, "A large number of public gathering and some incidents of nuisance viz. over speeding, unnecessary stoppage, outrageous driving etc. was brought in the notice which needs immediate action for public safety." In view of such incidents, Sharma said that unnecessary stoppage, over speeding (more than the speed limit mentioned in signboards), rash driving, wrong overtaking etc inside the tunnel shall be strictly prohibited and strict action shall be initiated under the new Motor Vehicle Act, 2019 for any violation.

Atal Tunnel witnesses three accidents within 24 hours of inauguration

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), a wing of the Defence Ministry that excavated the tunnel at an altitude of 3,000 m or 10,000 feet with sheer hard work and determination in a decade, on Monday blamed the local authorities for not deploying the police to monitor the movement of motorists. However, with the raising of serious objections by the BRO, the state government has now deployed the police after 48 hours. BRO Chief Engineer KP Purushothaman said that an official communication to provide forces to regulate the movement of the traffic was sent to the Chief Minister`s Office on July 3 and to the local administration on October 3.

Himachal Pradesh Assembly's monsoon session begins on Monday

Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar informed the House about the steps taken to check the spread of the disease during the monsoon session. The ninth session of the 13th assembly started at 2 pm. It will be held till September 18 and will have 10 sittings. Former chief minister Virbhadra Singh was among the MLAs who were present in the 68-member House.
