August 10 is marked as ‘World Lion Day’ each year to drive attention towards the preservation and protection of the big cats. 

“With this, all the 13 lions present in the AAZP have now tested negative for SARS-COV2 as per the report communicated by NIHSAD on 23rd July”, the zoo said. Zee Media had earlier reported that four lion samples from this zoo had tested positive for the ‘Delta variant’ of COVID-19. Out of those who tested positive, two lions (a lion and lioness) succumbed to the virus.

In a video shared by the Tuolumne County Sheriff Office on Facebook, the giant cat can be seen leaping from the window of the two-storey building to find a way out of the place. The incident happened on Monday night. The owners of the house reportedly heard a loud bang and were shocked to see the sight of a mountain lion. 

Following heavy rainfall in the area, the lions came towards the city, from the forest area in search of food and shelter. There have been no reports of any untoward incidents so far.

The lions had dragged a buffalo to eat and as soon as they were ready to attack it, two of them snapped at the third one and soon, a fight followed amongst themselves.

At least 36 lions, who were rescued from Gujarat's Gir Sanctuary are doing fine but will kept under observation for some more time, a senior official said. 

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV) on Friday identified the virus which caused the death of 23 lions in Gir Sanctuary. 

Canine Distemper Virus (CDV) was found in some of the 23 Asiatic lions which died in Gujarat's Gir forest since September 12, the state government said on Wednesday.
