Centre-Delhi services row: Supreme Court questions need of elected government

The Supreme Court on Thursday questioned the need for having an elected government in Delhi. SC's remark came after the Centre asserted the Union Territories are an extension of the Union which wants to administer them. A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, was told that Delhi being the national capital has a 'unique status'.

Rs 9,000 cr spent on security in J-K till 2021 since abrogation of Article 370

Centre spent over Rs 9,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. The amount includes Rs 448.04 crore that was spent till December 31, 2020. MHA has also approved five India Reserve Battalions, two Border Battalions and two Women Battalions for J-K.

The order said the nodal officers shall be responsible for assisting the deputy commissioners in providing timely information as may be sought by the commission. The commission wrapped up its four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Friday during which it interacted with political parties and district administrations. Except for the Peoples Democratic Party and the Awami National Conference, the commission interacted with all political parties and officials concerned during the visit.
