New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday laid the foundation of a 200-bed multi speciality hospital in Ambedkar Nagar area in South Delhi.
The hospital will have a number of departments such as internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and orthopaedics besides emergency and OPD services.
Officials said the hospital will be built as per green building concept and it will cost Rs 128 crore.
The Health department has engaged National Building Construction Corporation, a government of India enterprise, for construction of the hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Azad exhorted the people to avail the benefits of various schemes of the Union government.
Addressing the gathering, Dikshit said the hospital is being set up as part of the government`s initiative to strengthen the health infrastructure in the city.
"We are committed to further improving health infrastructure in the city. It would be the 41st hospital of Delhi government," she said.
Dikshit said construction of the hospital will be completed in 24 months.
"Delhi is emerging as a medical tourism hub. Delhi government hospitals also cater to the needs of patients coming from other states," Dikshit said.
Delhi Health Minister A K Walia said government has planned to set up a 100 bedded hospital at Sarita Vihar and another 225-bedded hospital at Chhattarpur.
