US President Donald Trump on Wednesday delivered his highly-anticipated maiden speech to the Congress at the Capitol Hill here and vowed to defeat terror outfit Islamic State.

Washington: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday delivered his highly-anticipated maiden speech to the Congress at the Capitol Hill here and vowed to defeat terror outfit Islamic State.

During his address to the Congress, Trump said, “We will work with our allies, including our friends in the Muslim World, to extinguish ISIS from our planet.”

The US President asserted his commitment to civil rights and condemning the recent wave of threats targeting Jewish centres across the United States.

"Tonight, as we mark the conclusion of our celebration of Black History Month, we are reminded of our nation`s path toward civil rights and the work that still remains," Trump began by saying.

Trump also touched upon the issue of Kansas shooting incident saying, "Recent threats targeting Jewish community centers and vandalism of Jewish cemeteries, as well as last week`s shooting in Kansas City, remind us that while we may be a nation divided on policies, we are a country that stands united in condemning hate and evil in all its forms.”

Trump announced that US will soon begin the construction of a great wall along the southern border.

During the first 40 days in office, Trump has followed an aggressive homeland security -- proposing immigration bans, border walls and a roughly 10 percent hike in budget for national security.
