Poll-bound Nepal to close borders with India for 72 hours

Nepal will be closing its borders with India for about 72 hours as it holds parliamentary and provincial council polls on November 26.

Kathmandu: Nepal will be closing its borders with India for about 72 hours as it holds parliamentary and provincial council polls on November 26.

Sunday`s polls will be the first phase.

The borders will be closed from early Friday to late Sunday.

Nepal shares Jhulaghat of Baitadi District, northern areas on the edge of the Mahakali River and Darchula`s Khalanga, Dattu and Joljibi border crossings with India.

The local administrative body of Baitadi and Darchula districts have tightened security in the border areas.

"The border crossings will remain closed from midnight of 23rd November for three days. We have made special arrangements for the passing of ambulances and other emergency vehicles," Baitadi`s Chief District Officer Siddharaj Joshi told ANI over phone.

The election will cover Baitadi, Darchula, Bajhang and Bajura.Local administrative bodies have banned the sale and consumption of alcohol from Tuesday till Sunday.
