Directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Karan Johar, 'Raazi' is a period thriller film. The film is an adaption of Harinder Sikka’s novel 'Calling Sehmat', about a Kashmiri spy married to a Pakistani man. The film story is set against the backdrop of 1971 Indo-Pak war.

Meghna, who is returning to direction after a long hiatus post 'Talvar', had shared the first look of the film on her Twitter handle.

In the movie, Alia plays the role of a Kashmir Muslim woman who married a Pakistani army officer so as to provide the Indian intelligence with valuable information during the war. 'Raazi' is scheduled to release on June 1 this year.

Earlier, while talking about the movie, Alia had told the news agency IANS, "I think in 'Raazi' audience will see me in completely different avatar at least that is my wish because 'Raazi' as a film is very different. Its the first time I am doing a period film and it is based on the true story as well, so I am very excited for it and I hope the audience will like it."

It is to be noted that Vicky Kaushal, who is out to prove his mettle with his acting, has appeared in films like 'Massan' and 'Raman Raghav 2.0'. He is also reportedly playing a role in Sanjay Dutt's biopic 'Sanju'. Alia, on the other hand, has films like 'Brahmastra' and 'Gully Boy' in her kitty. She will also be doing a special appearance in Anand L Rai's 'Zero' that features Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in key roles.
