Paris: The hues of India hit the world couture stage here with fashion world`s eternal enfant terrible, Jean Paul Gaultier, turning to Rajasthan`s embroidery and vibrant colours for his 2013 spring-summer collection.
Apparently turning to the tribals of the Indian desert state as inspiration for his new collection, Gaultier`s model displayed bright and extraordinary embroidered outfits at the selection evoking comments that India may be the latest flavour at the Paris show after Ang Lee`s ‘Life Of Pi’.
Models sported heavy kohl-lined eyes, beehive hair and towering platforms for the show attended by veteran French actress and Gaultier regular Catherine Deneuve. The French designer showcased one shoulder sari-styles, scarves, silk salwar pants and looks including an orange patchwork halter neck dress worn with flowing pink shawl and a selection of swirling multi-tiered skirts. One of the costumes was a jacket in paprika-coloured shantung with a skirt, over a cumin-coloured muslin dress ? evoking Indian-style layering. For the finale, Gaultier displayed a full-skirted embroidered wedding dress perfect for the dramatic structure of any Bollywood extravaganza. PTI
