Maruti Suzuki aims to maintain leadership in FY 17 with new car launches

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki plans to launch a new compact car Ignis and a variant Baleno RS to strengthen its portfolio and retain market leadership in 2016-17.

The Times of India reported that the carmaker grew at 11.5 percent in 2015-16 and expects to keep the same pace of growth in FY17. The industry grew at 8 percent in the same period.

The paper reported that the company is also planning to widen the network of it premium dealership Nexa and plans to sell the two models through Nexa dealers.

The Baleno RS varinat is expected to be feistier with a turbocharged petrol engine. The hatchback will have 1-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine christened ‘BoosterJet’.

Maruit Ignis was unveiled in the Auto Expo 2016, and will see the launch in the festive period in September-October.

Maruti Ignis is expected to be lighter and more robust than the existing Maruti cars The car comes equipped with several potent safety features such as ABS, EBD, ESP, dual front, side and curtain airbags, hill descent control, hill-hold, lane departure warning, etc.
