National Green Tribunal calls for impounding of more than 10-year old vehicles

New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal on Monday said the government should look at impounding vehicles which are more than 10 year old. It also called for impounding of 15 year old petrol vehicles.

The tribunal is expected to resume hearing on its on its order banning plying of over 10-year-old diesel vehicles in Delhi-NCR on July 18.

Though, government reportedly told the court that the current law does not permit permanently seizing of vehicles, the Green Tribunal said that it can issue direction for deregisteration of old vehicles if required.

The green panel had asked the Centre, Delhi government and the Central Pollution Control Board to submit its views on capping the total number of vehicles, scrapping old vehicles, car pooling and incentives to those who want to dispose their old vehicles.​
