Los Angeles: As the iconic ‘James Bond’ franchise completes 50 years, the makers have decided to celebrate Oct 5 this year as the Global James Bond Day.
The first ‘James Bond’ film ‘Dr. No’ hit the theatres Oct 5, 1962, so the makers Albert R. Broccoli`s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment have declared it the Global James Bond Day.
The day will witness a series of events for Bond fans around the world. The celebrations come ahead of the release of the 23rd Bond franchise ‘Skyfall’, releasing in Britain Oct 26, Nov 2 in India and Nov 9 in the US.
"We are absolutely thrilled to be celebrating James Bond`s golden anniversary on film with this special day of events for Bond fans around the world," Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, producers of ‘Skyfall’, said in a joint statement.
One of the interesting events will be unveiling feature documentary titled "Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007" in different countries on different dates.
Directed by Stevan Riley, the documentary focuses on three men with a shared dream - Bond producers Albert R. Broccoli, Harry Saltzman and author Ian Fleming. It`s an inspiring narrative behind the longest running film franchise in the history of cinema, which began in 1962.
The other worldwide events celebrating Bond`s golden anniversary include a global online and live auction charity event of 50 lots and the proceeds from them will go to 12 charitable institutions. The auction is organised by Christie`s in London.
There will be a retrospective of Bond films at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, a Music of Bond night in Los Angeles hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and an exhibition, "Designing 007: 50 Years of Bond Style", at TIFF in Toronto.
