Extending their overnight gains, gold prices finally ended the week at Rs 27,668 per ten grams in futures trade Friday.

Extending their overnight gains, gold prices finally ended the week at Rs 27,668 per ten grams in futures trade Friday even a weakening trend overseas.

Depreciation in rupee mainly supported the yellow metal prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold for delivery in August climbed by Rs 57 or 0.21 percent to close at Rs 27,668 per ten grams after moving in range of Rs 27,468- Rs 27,820.

Gold in overseas markets, which normally set price trend on the domestic front, fell as a record high in the S&P equities index and a higher dollar prompted bullion investors to take profits, a day after the metal's biggest rise in nine months on fresh bullish bets and short covering.

Spot gold last quoted down 0.4 percent at USD 1,314.45 an ounce, after jumping 3.3 percent in the previous session. The yellow metal was about 3 percent higher for the week.

US gold futures for August delivery ended at USD 1,316.60 an ounce, up USD 2.50.

Meanwhile, gold prices surged by Rs 605 to hit one-month high of Rs 28,625 per ten gram at Delhi bullion market, recording the biggest single-day gain this year, after the precious metal posted its steepest rise in nine months in the global markets.

Silver also spurted by Rs 1,800 to Rs 44,900 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Delhi

Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 percent purity surged by Rs 605 each to Rs 28,625 and Rs 28,425 per ten gram respectively, a level last seen on May 22. Sovereign followed suit and shot up by Rs 300 to Rs 24,900 per piece of 8 gram.

In a similar fashion, silver ready spurted by Rs 1,800 to Rs 44,900 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 1,900 to Rs 44,380 per kg.

Silver coins zoomed by Rs 3,000 to Rs 80,000 for buying and Rs 81,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

International markets

Spot gold last quoted down 0.4 percent at USD 1,314.45 an ounce, after jumping 3.3 percent in the previous session. The yellow metal was about 3 percent higher for the week.

US gold futures for August delivery ended at USD 1,316.60 an ounce, up USD 2.50.
