London: The white iPad mini version sold out like hot cakes within 20 minutes of its pre-order release in the U.S. on Friday, and all that remains for immediate order are the black versions. Both 7.9 inches in size, scaled down from the original iPad 9.7-inch size, the sole difference between the latest versions is their colour.
"It was very quick. They are launching it around the world so are restricting stock, or it really is that popular," the Daily Mail quoted Stuart Miles of gadget website Pocket Lint, which is based outside London, as saying.
He added that in the U.K., the white version sold out in an hours'' time. ''I would expect Apple will have plenty stock in stores and Apple prefers people to visit stores, to sell them extras,'' he added.
Experts have said Apple will carry a sizable stock of iPad minis in their stores though the lines are expected to wrap, with some eager customers camping over night as seen at previous launches.
The launch has now been pushed back two weeks from its in-store launch and pre-order delivery date of November 2. In question by both consumers and experts, however, is the actual supply versus demand of the iPad minis. It's been noted that countries outside the U.S. promptly listed a ''two-week delivery'' time on the white versions the moment they went on sale, according to reports.
