Mumbai: Forget India’s varied religions; Bollywood and cricket rule the country! A recent incident confirms the notion that major upheavals can be caused in Indian society by film-buffs and cricket-lovers. In a shocking revelation, four ordinary women were so impressed and obsessed with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s character ‘Sunehri’ of ‘Dhoom 2’ that they took to robbery big-time. The glamorized portrayal of ‘Sunehri’ in the film made the women see their ‘profession’ in a better light and they were motivated to plan big robberies. According to a source, these women had family and kids and were perfect homely Indian ladies in day-light but by nightfall they would turn into bandit-queens. They conducted thefts until ‘Dhoom 2’ happened. The women - Ompati (40). Kela (32), Geeta (30) and Sheela (20) used to sneak into warehouses and steal batteries, which they would sell for money. Raj Kumar, an Inspector with Delhi police said to a news daily, “They had a bias for battery cells. The gang easily made Rs 1 lakh per day. It is still unclear how many thefts they have already conducted.” Then, an acquaintance showed them, ‘Dhoom 2’, which inspired them to go for bigger bucks. But evidently, the film cost them dearly as they are in custody now. Now, they would know the difference between real and reel life!
