Review: ‘Beauty and the Beast’ – A classic masterpiece in 3D

Disney’s animated classic ‘Beauty and the Beast’, which originally released in 1991 returns to the big screen with new 3D effects and promises to mesmerize a whole new generation with some never before digital imagery. Following the Disney tradition of transposing well-known fairy tales from the pages of a book to the big screen, the film captures the fantastic journey of Belle (voice of Paige O’Hara), a bright and beautiful young woman who’s taken prisoner by a hideous beast (voice of Robby Benson) in his castle. The Beast lives in solitude in a long-ago abandoned castle, having had a spell cast upon him because of his inability to love. The spell turned the handsome prince into an ugly beast, and it turned all of his servants into dinnerware, candlesticks, and other inanimate objects. As Belle’s father, Maurice (Rex Everhart) makes a wrong turn, little he fathoms that the fateful incident would end in unison of the beauty and the beast. Nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is one of Disney`s greatest animated achievements. The highlight of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is the musical number “Be Our Guest,” which features an entire dining hall filled with dancing teacups, plates, and eating utensils. This is an awe-inspiring film that launched a new generation of animation Disney masterpieces. ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is the quintessential "must see" family film. Ratings: Three cheers for this one!
