`Potter` tops overseas Box Office for 3rd weekend

Los Angeles: `Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1` claimed the No 1 spot at overseas box offices for the third straight weekend with $54.4 million to stay ahead of animated movie `Tangled`."Deathly Hallows" dropped about 52 percent from the prior weekend, and the total ticket sales overseas for the seventh title in the "Potter" franchise now stand at $469.1 million.

Disney Animation`s "Tangled," the No. 1 title in the United States and Canada this weekend, saw a weekend gross of $26 million from theaters in about 35 percent of the international market. So far, the 3D retelling of the classic Rapunzel tale has grossed $45.8 million over two weekends frames at foreign box offices. Landing at No. 3 was DreamWorks Animation`s "Megamind," which opened in 17 territories covering much of Europe and Latin America, and generated $16 million overall. Fourth was "Due Date," taking in $6.4 million in 54 markets and pushing its overseas gross to $82.6 million. Rounding out the top five was runaway train movie "Unstoppable" with $4.2 million in 52 markets. Its foreign gross is $51.1 million. Year-to-date, Hollywood`s major studios have substantially enlarged their new overseas box office record, which was notched last month. According to studio figures, the six majors -- 20th Century Fox, Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount, Sony and Universal -- collectively grossed $11.5 billion offshore in the January-November period, beating their previous foreign box office record of $10.7 billion set in calendar year 2009. With Disney`s "Tron: Legacy," among other titles, still to be released overseas in 2010, the full year`s foreign box office record will only rise. (For the month of November, Paramount claimed the biggest gross of the big six with $117.5 million. As of November 30, Warner Bros. had taken over second spot in the year-to-date overseas sweepstakes, elbowing Disney aside and claiming $2.55 billion from January-November Disney`s figure stands at $2.12 billion, and Fox remains No. 1 with an 11-month tally of $2.6 billion.
