New Delhi: The government on Wednesday said 12 coal mining projects, entailing an investment of Rs 1,347 crore, has been identified for speedy clearances within a month.
"Twelve coal mining projects with an annual coal production of 36.9 million tonnes...Have been identified for expeditious clearance within a month," Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth said here.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh earlier in the day said that the Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) has streamlined the processes of granting environment and forest clearances for mega projects.
"Clearances for 12 coal mining projects have been fast tracked. These projects would add 37 million tonnes to our annual coal production," Singh said.
The CCI in its meeting in February had considered the proposal of Coal Ministry with regard to fast tracking of the approvals for the environment and forest clearances in respect of 12 coal mining projects, according to an official statement.
The Committee noted that in respect of six coal mines, environment clearance has been accorded and directed that in respect of remaining cases relating to environment/forest clearances, environment and coal secretaries will hold mutual discussions and finalise within one month, the time-frame for processing such cases, the statement added.
