Review: Aniston-Butler’s ‘The Bounty Hunter’ is a depressing affair!

Andy Tennant, the director of super-hit romantic comedy ‘Hitch’, apparently struggles to recreate the magic of the Will Smith-Eva Mendes starrer with his latest offering. ‘The Bounty Hunter’, which seems to be a fairly decent plot otherwise, doesn’t manage to click, perhaps because of the lack of chemistry between the lead couple – Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler.

Jennifer (Nicole) plays a journalist who’s investigating the mysterious suicide of a cop. But one day, when she fails to turn up for a court hearing and jumps bail, her former husband ex-cop Gerard Butler (Milo), whose job is of a bounty hunter (man who catches those that have broken parole), gets the chance to arrest her. But the hoodlums behind the suicide try to take both of them down. The rest of the film is about the couple’s attempts to score over each other. Nevertheless, considering that the two were married earlier, they are well aware of each others’ limitations, but don’t seem to know much about their strengths. For instance, when ex-wife Nicole tries to fake her tears, Milo knows it. Also she exactly knows the way to make use of Milo’s addiction to gambling to her advantage. However, as expected, at the end of it, the two do manage to rediscover the love they had for one another. While they’re on their way of being shot at, posing as senators and a honeymooning couple, riding a cycle rickshaw through Las Vegas and dodging balls at a golf course, Nicole and Milo finally happen to fall in love with each other back again. The biggest flaw of the movie is its supposedly comic sequences, which completely fail tickle your funny bone, throughout the story. And most importantly, the chemistry between Butler and Aniston, absolutely lacks luster. ‘The Bounty Hunter’ lacks big time on the director’s front too, it appears. On the whole, despite having much-loved lead pair of Butler and Aniston, this one is easy to be skipped! Rating: Two cheers
