Jay-Z sued for trademark infringement

Roc Nation has been sued for trademark infringement over their diamond logo.

New York: Rap mogul Jay-Z`s record label Roc Nation has been sued for trademark infringement over their famed diamond shaped logo.
Volcom, a California based clothing manufacturer has alleged in New York district court that Roc`s logo too closely resembles the "stone" marking one they`ve been using since 1991, reported New York Daily News online. According to the complaint, Volcom has spent more than USD 100,000,000 in marketing their jewel-shaped logo. Roc Nation began using their own diamond-shaped logo in 2009 and has ignored requests to cease and desist, per the complaint. Roc Nation has been putting its red diamond logo on headphones, records and other consumer products. "While Roc Nation appears to have initially used the diamond only in combination with the words `Roc Nation` it is now using the diamond logo on its own, causing a likelihood of confusion among consumers," Volcom`s complaint reads. Volcom, who claims to be heavily involved with promoting live and recorded music, claims that their merchandise is often sold from similar retailers, making the similarity even more of a problem. This is not the first time that the `99 Problems` hitmaker has found himself in trouble over insignia. In 2005, the rapper was sued by wrestler Diamond Dallas Page for throwing a diamond hand sign to represent the Roc-A-Fella `Dynasty`, saying it was too similar to Page`s `Diamond Cutter` hand signal. In 2007, Jay-Z agreed to pay the wrestler an undisclosed sum. PTI
