Stead has won the Sunday Times EFG Private Bank short story award.

London: New Zealand writer Christian Karlson Stead has won the Sunday Times EFG Private Bank short story award, competition organizers said on Friday.Stead won the 25,000 pound ($37,000) prize for "Last Season`s Man," a book set in Croatia about a young writer.
It was picked from a shortlist of five stories, taken from a longlist of 19 writers. "`Last Season`s Man` is a wry, perceptive look at rivalry and love. It was a pleasure to read, and is a fine example of how a short story should be constructed and written," said one of the judges, author Hanif Kureishi. Stead, 77, has published 11 novels, two collections of short stories and 15 collections of poems, as well as six books of literary criticism and essays. He was professor of English at the University of Auckland for 20 years. Bureau Report
