London: Songwriter Mike Stock has warned that pop music has been on ‘a slow but unmistakable descent into pornography’.
Stock, who penned dozens of hits as part of ‘Stock, Aitken and Waterman’ and helped launch Kylie Minogue``s pop career, blamed the rise of stars such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry as the reason behind the musical degradation. According to him, they were among a series of performers who ‘have taken sexualised imagery, dance moves and lyrical content way beyond the limits of decency’, reports the Scotsman. Though the government-commissioned Bailey Report was published to counter the sexualisation and commercialisation of young people letting parents have more say in the TV watershed guidelines, Stock felt that the attempts were ‘irrelevant’.
