He may be known for his dark edgy films, but debutant actress Huma Qureshi feels that maverick filmmaker Anurag Kasghap should make romantic comedies. “He is such an easy going and fun loving person. Don`t go by the kind of films he makes," says Huma, who makes her debut in Anurag Kashyap`s ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. Huma, who is just back from Cannes Film Festival where the film was screened, says the filmmaker offered her the role of Mohsina while they were shooting for an advertisement some years back. "Initially I didn`t believe him, but he kept his word and offered the film to me." But wasn`t she scared that she would go unnoticed in a film which has about 370 characters? “I was very nervous. In fact, I had even consulted Anurag and suggested that maybe it wasn`t that good an idea to cast me in this film. He just looked at me and said "Shut up"", laughed Huma. The Delhi girl, who has a strong background in theatre, did lots of ads till she landed the role in Kashyap`s film. Paired opposite `Kahaani` sensation Nawazuddin, Huma says that their track is actually quite funny. “The film is about gangsters and I play a girl who is heavily influenced by Bollywood. In her head she is Madhuri Dixit and she falls in love with a man who thinks he is Amitabh Bachchan. So it’s a love story between a small town Madhuri Dixit and small town Amitabh Bachchan." The girl who made heads turn at Cannes in her black ensemble at the red carpet feels that the festival is also a platform for fashion and global trends and not just films."There is a constant pressure to look good. It is a very glamorous event, no doubt. I had a tough time wearing heels all day long! But it was lot of fun. So much to learn, see, absorb!" Huma, who had to convince her conservative family hard before making the big shift to Mumbai, is happy that the city and the film industry have embraced her with open arms. She has already made a trip to the Cannes with her very first film, a feat which many of the established stars haven`t yet been able to achieve. The girl has also got some interesting films lined up after `Gangs....`. Vishal Bhardwaj`s ‘Ek Thi Daayan’ where she is working with Emraan Hashmi, `Love Shove Te Chicken Khurana` where she is paired with Kunal Kapoor and Nikhil Advani`s next action film. Any actor she wishes to work with? "All! I have got the opportunity to work with some very interesting and talented actors like Nawazuddin, Emraan Hashmi, Kunal so early in my career. I think the audience today wants to see interesting, unconventional pairing. So I am eager to be paired with different actors," says Huma. The girl, who started her career in an ad featuring Abhishek Bachchan, has also worked with Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. So who did she enjoy working with the most? “The ad that I did with Abhishek was my first assignment in Mumbai. So it will remain special. The response after that ad came out was overwhelming. I think my family was just glad that I got to work with Abhishek Bachchan. And I have always been in love with SRK. Huge fan of his. I couldn`t speak for the first few hours when we were shooting. Aamir is a thorough professional. Knows his craft well, so one can learn a lot," answers Huma diplomatically. After three years in Mumbai, Huma feels at home. "I am a Dilli waali. Always will be. But I have got used to Mumbai. When I think of home now, I think of my Mumbai home. Don`t ask me to choose between the two cities. One is my right hand and other is left. Can`t do without any," says the actress. With an insatiable hunger to perform and work in films, looks like this Dilli Wali is all set to make her mark in her new home, Mumbai. And no one can stop her now!
