Mumbai: With the release of Louis Leterrier’s ‘Clash of the Titans’, it’s comeback time for ‘sword and sandal’ flicks at the Box Office.Starring Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Sam Worthington, ‘Clash of the Titans’ is woven around the Greek mythology where mortals and Gods are at loggerheads. The clash between Gods and the humans is due to the fact that humans are no longer interested in seeking divine intervention, whereas Gods feel betrayed by the defiance of humanity.
In the story, Zeus (Liam Neeson) feels utterly betrayed by mortals and their rebellion against the immortals – Gods. On the other hand, Zeus’ conniving brother Hades (Ralph Fiennes) sees this as a golden opportunity to serve his own end and plot against Zeus.
However, with kings waging a war against the Gods, they seek the help of Perseus (Sam Worthington), son of Zeus. The dilemma of Perseus is worth watching but a half-baked plot and loose script turns into a nightmare for ‘Clash of the Titans.’ The film hardly dwells upon the reason why humans are angered by Gods and why is Zeus so vulnerable despite being one of the most powerful Gods.
Most of the scenes from ‘Clash of the Titans’ have been shot in 2D format instead of 3D. The scene only worth mentioning is the fight of Perseus versus Medusa. In terms of performance, Liam Neeson is absolutely wasted in the film. However, Sam Worthington and Ralph Fiennes stand out with their stellar performances as Hades and Perseus respectively.
Watch ‘Clash of the Titans’ only if you are interested in the Greek myths.
Ratings: Two cheers for this one!
