Kolkata: Bringing together diverse forms of art including paintings, sculptures and photographs under one platform, exquisite creations of more than 250 artists are being showcased at an art fair.
Organised by Emami Chisel Art gallery, the fair was inaugurated today by actress Rituparna Sengupta and will go on till November 4. Besides the colourful exposition of paintings, drawings, handicrafts, graphic prints on two-dimensional support bases, delicate sculptures and ceramic items are also an added attraction. The organisers said they are promoting emerging artists and making well-known names more accessible for the masses. A spokesperson of the art fair said, "With this we want to promote art among the masses and not just connoisseurs. The prices are kept reasonably low to encourage first-time buyers of art." The exhibition-cum-sale features special artworks from artists representing leading art groups such as Society of Contemporary Artists and Creative Group. Besides, teachers from the Government College of Art and Craft, Rabindra Bharati University and University of Kalyani have also put up stalls at the venue. Eminent names who have also exhibited their works include Somnath Hore, Jogen Chowdhury and Samir Aich. Covering almost every aspect of art portrayed through diverse perspectives of life, the fair comprises more than a thousand select works by exploring new and varied themes. Love towards nature, beauty, relationships and the ever-changing urban society with the diverse hues of life have been portrayed by artists. Arup Ratan Choudhury, who came from Hooghly district, presented the spirit of Kolkata city by capturing various moods in a collage-like acrylic on canvas creation. Along with his six artist friends, Choudhury is participating under the group `Amra`. "This is a good platform for us as we get new customers, some of whom are first time buyers of art," he said. PTI
