New York: The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, the fiery rock trio that`s been on a virtual hiatus since 2004, is planning an extensive reissue campaign next year.Spencer, the former frontman of Pussy Galore, teamed with guitarist Judah Bauer and drummer Russell Simins in the 1990s for a series of albums that pioneered the stripped-down "punk-blues" sound of the era.
The first release of the new series through archival label Shout! Factory will be "Dirty Shirt Rock N` Roll: The First Ten Years," a 22-track compilation due out on March 30.
Reissues of the newly remastered original albums, originally released on indie label Matador, will follow, with rare and unreleased bonus tracks, new liner notes and photos. All titles will also be available digitally, many for the first time ever.
"There is a lot of power in the grooves of these records," Spencer said in a statement. "The Blues are still No. 1."
Earlier this year, Spencer told Billboard.com that the band remains "very much in deep hiatus," though it did play a show during the summer in New York City. But Spencer predicted "there might be some more activity" in the wake of the reissues.
