‘Never-before seen’ snaps of Beatles 1st US tour sold for $360K

Some rare snaps of Beatles’ first US concert in Washington DC have been auctioned off in New York for more than 360,000 dollars.

London: Some rare snaps of Beatles’ first US concert in Washington DC have been auctioned off in New York for more than 360,000 dollars.
The ‘Fab Four’ took stage for their first US concert on February 11 1964, at the Washington Coliseum.
Mike Mitchell, then 18, took the photographs and now the fifty silver gelatin prints that he made from negatives were sold individually at Christie’s auction house. The snaps, and photos from another Beatles concert, were expected to fetch a total of just 100,000 dollars. A photo that showed Mitchell standing directly behind the ‘Fab Four’ was sold for more than 68,000 dollars and was estimated to bring 2,000-3,000 dollars. Another image of an animated Ringo Starr on the drums expected to bring 3,000-5,000 dollars sold for 8,125 dollars. “Beatles fans are fierce. To uncover this trove of images that’s never been published will really excite people,” the Daily Express quoted Cathy Elkies, Christie’s director of iconic collections, as saying. ANI
