India's tea exports decline by 8% in July

New Delhi: Tea production went up by 8 percent to 133.26 million kg in July, but exports declined by 8 percent to 15.26 million kg in the same month, the Tea Board said Friday.

Production of tea stood at 123.19 million kg in July, 2010, while exports amounted to 16.58 million kg, according to data released by the Tea Board.

Tea production rose by 6 percent to 491.59 million kg in the January-July period of the current year, compared to 462.16 million kg in the same period of the previous year.

Exports of tea declined by 16 percent to 89.82 million kg, as against 107.29 million kg in the period under review.
