New Delhi: A two-day perfume fair, ‘The Itra and Sugandhi Mela’, has been organized at Dilli Haat.
Most of the merchants at the fair, which concludes today, are from Kannauj - considered as the hub of traditional perfume industry in India.
The Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre, who specialize in research in perfumes and scents, are organizing the fair.
“The significance of this Perfume Fair is that common people don’t know much about the different types of fragrances. People take everything to be perfume if they get it in a small bottle of scent,” said Shakti Vinay Shukla, Deputy Director of the Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre.
“Some are perfumes (Itra) and some are just scents (Sugandhi), that is why this fair has been titled ``Itra and Sugandhi Fair.`` The people should have proper knowledge about scents and perfumes. They should know what they are buying. They should know the proper way of usage. It is with this aim that this Perfume Fair has been organized," he added.
Visitors at the fair have been treated to a wide range of perfumes.
Various traditional wares and instruments used in perfume making are also on display at the fair.
