`Resident Evil: Retribution` tops weekend Box Office with $21.1m debut

Washington: While Paul Thomas Anderson’s cult drama ‘The Master’ commanded a huge following in its opening weekend by smashing records on just a handful of screens, ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ was the number one film at the box office with an estimated 21.1-million-dollar opening.
According to studio estimates on Sunday, the Weinstein Co. release ‘The Master’ made 729,745 dollars in five theatres in New York and Los Angeles for a record-setting per-screen average of 145,949 dollars.
The fifth film in the Sony Screen Gems action franchise ‘Resident Evil’ topped the 3-D re-release of the Disney Pixar animated favourite ‘Finding Nemo’ , which opened in second place with 17.5 million dollars, Fox News reported. Last week’s number one ‘The Possession’ was knocked down to the third position with just 5.8-million-dollar takings this weekend. Depression-era gangster flick ‘Lawless’ fell from second place last week to fourth after earning 4.2 million dollars, with ‘ParaNorman’ rounding off the top five.
