Its official! Men too will have child care, dependent care leave

New Delhi: Gender imbalance is alive and thriving in Indian households, and government has taken the onus to narrow the imbalance through its National Policy for Women 2016.   

The draft National Policy released on Tuesday has suggested dependent care and child care leave not for just working women, but working men too.

“Effort will be made to make family-friendly policies, which will provide for childcare , dependent care and paid leave for women and men both in organized and unorganized sector to help employees balance work and family roles”, said the draft of the National Policy for Women 2016 released today.

The policy also aims to encourage the private sector to have more women-friendly policies in India, hire more women employees and offer them conducive environment of work-life balance. “Companies will be encouraged to reserve a certain percentage of their CSR as gender component.

The policy also talks about reviewing Labour Acts and policies for increasing female work participation, eliminating discrimination and promoting equity.
