Rail Budget 2016: Pabhu likely to announce smart coaches with home-like comfort

To enhance passenger amenities and making train journey more comfortable, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is likely to announce `smart coaches' initiative in the Rail Budget 2016 to be presented in Parliament on Feb 25.

New Delhi: To enhance passenger amenities and making train journey more comfortable, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is likely to announce `smart coaches' initiative in the Railway Budget to be presented in Parliament on Feb 25, as per media report.

According to The Times of India report, under this new initiative, coaches may be equipped with added features like GPS-based wake up alarm, LED-based reservation charts, berth indicators in reserved compartments along with Wi-Fi facility, on-board vending machine for water, coffee, tea and other drinks, modular bio-toilets fitted with sensorised taps and flushing systems, automatic soap dispensers, hand dryers.

Railways had earlier unveiled refurbished coaches with aesthetically appealing and improved interior furnishings.
