India’s elite wedding with 100k guests to outdo Britain’s royal nuptials

London: The six-day wedding between two of India’s most affluent families in December is all set to outshine this year’s Britain’s royal nuptials and make it seem a rather modest affair.

The wedding between Prateek, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s son, and Aparna, Arvind Singh Bisht’s daughter, will be hosted in the town of Safai in Uttar Pradesh and will be witnessed by almost 100,000 people, which is enough to fill London’s 02 five times. Mulayam Singh Yadav is the head of the Samajwadi (Socialist) Party and three times Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and Arvind Singh Bisht is the editor of the Lucknow branch of The Times of India in Uttar Pradesh. “The royalty is getting married and it’s a big buzz here,” the Independent quoted Aparna as saying. “We have been friends for eight years, so you can call us high-school sweethearts,” she said. The wedding, which opens on 2nd December and concludes with a reception in Lucknow for 1,500 people on 7th December, has taken six months to prepare. The wedding ceremony falls on the third day, when numbers will swell to 100,000, bringing Samajwadi supporters from all over India. ANI
