New Delhi: Sugar production has risen marginally by 2 percent to 13.63 million tonnes during the October-January period, an industry body said on Friday.
Mills had produced 13.35 million tonnes of sugar in the same period of last marketing year that starts from October.
The National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) in a release said that sugar production in Maharashtra, the country's biggest sugar producing state, stood at 4.7 million tonnes.
The output in second largest producing state Uttar Pradesh was 3.58 million tonnes in the review period.
Karnataka produced 2.4 million tonnes, Tamil Nadu 625,000 tonnes and Andhra Pradesh 600,000 tonnes the October-January period of the 2012-13 marketing year.
The sugar industry has forecast total output to be over 24.2 million tonnes in the current year, lower than 26 million tonnes achieved in 2011-12.
