Los Angeles: Ever wonder what happened to Alice of "Wonderland" fame? To believe an upcoming Broadway musical, she`s all grown-up, in a troubled marriage, may be losing her job and already has lost her daughter. This tale just gets "curiouser and curiouser," as Alice might say.
The producers of "Wonderland: A New Alice. A New Musical" on Tuesday said they plan to premiere the show on Broadway April 17, 2011. It tells an updated tale of the classic 19th Century novel "Alice`s Adventures in Wonderland," about a young girl who falls down a rabbit hole and encounters a fantasy world populated by a mad Hatter, March Hare and Dormouse. Musical "Wonderland," produced by Broadway Genesis Project, offers a more contemporary story about an adult Alice who has lost her joy in life but rediscovers it while searching for her lost daughter in the fantasy world she visited so long ago. The production follows a long line of Broadway plays and musicals that twist old tales in new ways, such as "Wicked," which looked at Dorothy`s adventures in "The Wizard of Oz" through the witches point-of-view. "Wonderland" was conceived by Frank Wildhorn and has played in theaters in Tampa, Florida and Houston, Texas. Broadway previews begin on March 21, 2011 at a Nederlander theater. `Wonderland` will be directed by Gregory Boyd with music by Wildhorn and lyrics by Jack Murphy. Bureau Report
