James Cameron to re-release `Avatar` on August 27

Director James Cameron`s 3D epic `Avatar` will see a limited re-release on August 27 with more than eight minutes of extra footage.

Los Angeles: Director James Cameron`s 3D epic `Avatar` will see a limited re-release on August 27 with more than eight minutes of extra footage. Titled `Avatar: Special Edition`, the film will be released worldwide, including India and play exclusively in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D.
"Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer. So we`re making that possible," 20th Century Fox and Cameron said in a statement. "`Avatar: Special Edition` will be exclusively in 3D, and will have eight minutes of never before seen footage, including new creatures and action scenes," the Oscar-winning director added. The makers decided to go ahead with another release because since the film`s release last December, the number of 3D screens has increased. "It is especially gratifying, because not only has `Avatar` become one of the most beloved films in history, but after its initial theatrical release, we have been inundated with requests to re-release the film in theaters in 3D," said Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman, Fox Filmed Entertainment chairmen and CEOs. `Avatar` cost USD 230 million to make and earned USD 2.7 billion in worldwide box-office sales.
