London: Queen Elizabeth II will be coming to Stratford-upon-Avon on 4th March to inaugurate the newly revamped Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
According to a leading daily, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit Stratford on 4th March after gracing another opening ceremony in the county—at the Warwickshire Justice Centre in Leamington.
Talking to a daily, Vikki Heywood, executive director of the Royal Shakespeare Company said, “We are thrilled that our patron, the Queen, will visit us to mark the formal opening of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The transformation has been an incredible journey for the company and it’s a special moment for our staff and those closely involved in the project to be able to come together to mark the achievement.”
“The Queen will unveil a commemorative plaque, designed by Helen Mary Skelton, and this will find a new home at the base of the tower. It’s a great moment of celebration for us and the town.
We’ve already welcomed over 55,000 people to the theatre since we opened the doors in November and we’re really looking forward to welcoming many more to our 50th birthday season which opens in April,” added Heywood.
The royal party is also set to meet the actors and backstage staff, where the Queen will unveil the plaque and officially open the new theatre.
