Mumbai: His arrest led to nationwide fury, and now firebrand cartoonist Aseem Trivedi is all set to make his mark in the showbiz world via a reality show.
The cartoonist, whose anti-corruption cartoons led to arrest and sedition charges (which were later dropped), will feature as an inmate in the latest season of ‘Bigg Boss’. The show, which will start from October 7, has superstar Salman Khan as its host for the third consecutive year. The cartoonist’s father, Ashok Trivedi, confirmed the news to a daily and said that his son was taking part in the show to be “seen and heard’. “ “My son is not glamour-struck, nor does he have any inclination to be a part of the showbiz. He wanted to be on the show so that he can be seen and heard,” said Ashok. Colors, the channel on which the show will be aired, reportedly approached Aseem right after he was released from jail. "He will surely talk about his campaign but only if he is asked about it by other contestants. It is not that he wants to use the show as a platform to highlight his campaign, though I know he would not be able to stop himself if provoked. Aseem had time at hand and he thought the show was the best way to reach out to people. He is not doing this for money. He would rather enjoy being inside the house, which is a new experience altogether," added his father. Aseem Trivedi, an active member of Anna’s India Against Corruption movement, was arrested on Septemeber 9 after he posted ‘objectionable’ cartoons on his website. The cartoonist was also charged of sedition, which were later dropped. The show’s host, Salman Khan, meanwhile, has assured that this year the show will be for family audience and will include the common man as well in the show. Sources have claimed that Hindi poet Kumar Vishwas will represent the common man in the show this year along with Aseem. Other celebrities who have been confirmed for the show include cricketer-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, ‘Gulabi gang’ leader Sampat Pal, TV actresses Urvashi Dholakia and Aksha Goradia.
